Brand New Cherry Flavor episode 6 recap In a flashback to the shooting of the short movie, Brand New Cherry Flavor reveals that Lisa and Mary were lovers. Back in the 90s, and Lisa takes a milk bath in Boro’s yard whilst James tells Lou that Lisa is dead. Little does he know! With Mary eager to see Lisa’s dead body, both she and Lou are annoyed to find that Lisa isn’t dead. As Lisa soaks in the milk bath, Boro reveals her background. This is where Brand New Cherry Flavor gets a little crazy. Boro reveals that 900 years ago, she was a man, and he encountered a spirit living in an animal body which led to him and the white jaguar f*cking. One day, after hearing an army is heading towards him, the white jaguar taught him a ritual that gave him the ability to sense where his enemies were. As a result, he was able to set a trap and slaughter all of his enemies. But, because the ritual involved a toad, he was told to bring his wife. Although he tried to trick to jaguar by offering up a different woman, the jaguar didn’t fall for it. As a result, the jaguar bit off his balls and left him for dead. It all seemed hopeless until a young girl appeared and he jumped into her body. And that’s what Boro has done ever since! As for the jaguar, Boro heard that it was killed by the Spanish and made into a couch. Fully healed and back in her apartment, Lisa is disturbed by James. He tries to kill her, but, feeling fresh, Lisa kills him and practically bites off his head. Needing a hand, Lisa has Roy, Christine and Code clean up her mess. All of them deal with it relatively ok, except for Code. He freaks out and decides to stay behind whilst the body is dumped. This is when he spots Mary, who had been hiding in the closet, and after a brief conversation, they learn they’re both ex-lovers of Lisa. The ending Lisa describes killing James as like, “opening a birthday present — special”, whilst Mary visits Boro. Roy tells Lisa that “I can’t be addicted to you, and I don’t want to be, and I think this has to be goodbye for good”. In all fairness to Roy, covering up a murder can make you feel that way. Episode 6 of Brand New Cherry Flavor ends with Lisa finding Code dead. Someone or something has rammed an object into his eye. On the surface, the new Netflix limited series Brand New Cherry Flavor is a gory revenge thriller about an up-and-coming director named Lisa Nova Rosa Salazar who is fighting to get her film back from pervert producer Lou Burke Eric Lange. But for all the blood, guts, and kitten regurgitations of which they are many — too many, tbh, the eight-episode series based on the Todd Grimson novel of the same name is really a Hollywood makes a deal with a devilish figure named Boro, played by an absolutely bonkers Catherine Keener. She's basically her Get Out character Missy Armitage cosplaying as the darkest timeline's Stevie Nicks. Boro is a supernatural entity who drinks the blood of cats, turns her customers into zombie henchman, and swaps bodies when it feels appropriate. The witchy woman promises she'll make the producer pay through a bit of dark magic. But at a steep price everyone in Lisa's orbit becomes collateral damage for her dreams. Even Lisa barely makes it out of the series the final episode of Brand New Cherry Flavor we learn that Boro is getting ready to ditch the body she's been using for the last decade. Sorry, Jennifer. She thinks Lisa, who Boro hints has some dark powers of her own, would make for a good vessel. Boro's not helping Lisa, she's grooming a sinister read on Hollywood mentorship Beware of anyone looking to help you get ahead. Lisa assumes Lou is going to take her under her wing, but he's more interested in sleeping with her. When she doesn't, he gaslights her into thinking it's her fault she lost the opportunity to direct her own film. She's not experienced enough. She didn't pay her dues yet. She'll get another chance one day if she makes nice with also comes to Lisa under the guise of a helper. Her journey towards Hollywood success includes a one-eyed leading lady Mary Gray Siena Weber who believes that Lisa took advantage of her, filming the final scene of Lisa's short film, Mary gouges out her own eye and eats it. It's a horrifying moment that has anyone who sees the film wondering how Lisa managed to make it look so real. Mary and the audience learn the truth in episode 5. The two were on drugs when it happened, but Mary believes it was Lisa's aggressive prodding to be more real in her performance that led to the Lisa left Mary alone in the woods, while she drove off to with the cursed footage that leads to her meeting with Lou. There are hints, thanks to a film canister labeled "Lucy's Eye Ext. Woods Day," that there is unedited footage from the shoot that we haven't and will never see. Now Mary is out for her own revenge, which leads her right to Boro, who is more than happy to take advantage of her Courtesy of the end, Lisa gets her film back, though it's not because of Boro. It's because of Alvin Sender Patrick Fischler, a rich Hollywood executive who liked her film and always wanted her to direct it. Lisa has no remorse for what has happened to all those who really wanted to help her achieve her dreams like Code an underutilized Manny Jacinto or film star Roy Hardaway Jeff Ward, whose love for her ends up leading to his she does seem to have real sympathy for Lou, who, thanks to Boro, goes blind and can no longer enjoy movies the way he once did. Seeing his pain makes Lisa remember why she wanted to be a filmmaker in the first place It's not fame she wants, it's creative freedom. Perhaps, she has more in common with him than she thought. His state makes her realize she can't serve two masters, she can only serve isn't a hero for choosing to go home to Brazil and leave Hollywood behind. She's just smart enough to not make another deal with the devil. She doesn't take down Boro and seek vengeance for her friends, she runs away from a mess she created. She saves herself. She allows this entity to use the broken Mary for her bidding, which will ultimately lead to the exploitation of more vulnerable people in the truth is, Lisa was just the flavor of the week, someone for Boro and the rest of the parasites in Hollywood to feed off. Unfortunately, as Brand New Cherry Flavor shows, there is always someone else willing to sell their soul for a chance at fame and success.

The protagonist played by non-eccentric variant of Aubrey Plaza Rosa Salazar is fine but she isn't very interesting… If you're into chaotic bisexuality, body horror, witchcraft, and kittens, then oh boy are you in for a treat Now that I've seen this movie, I am certain all the expressions on Alita's face in the Robert Rodriguez movie and also starring Rosa Salazar wasn't digitally enhanced but all organic. The actress pulled like eleven expressions with her face per second in every wasn't a big fan of this Netflix series, as you can see by my shocking? Mark clearly thinks so rating. The main reason for this is that this is not a show that ultimately felt interested in telling a story, but in simply being weird. Rosa Salazar stars as Lisa, a novice film director who heads to Hollywood in the early 90s to make a movie sticking true to her vision, instead helplessly falling into obscure dreamlike hallucinations of sex and revenge. Salazar was electrifying, including Eric Lange and Catherine Keener who were phenomenal as well. That first episode ropes us into madness as we watch Lisa try to navigate through her entanglements. It's atmospheric, trippy, provocative with body horror I've never seen done in that way before. The cinematography and visuals were fantastic. Don’t expect a fast pace or to know the exact tone coming into this. It was truly an out-of-world experience and I was mulling over this after the series ended. That's pretty much the vibe I had… Halfway through the binge-inducing Brand New Cherry Flavor that will taste more familiar to fans of Hollyweird epics like Under The Silver Lake or Twin Peaks The Return. The erotic body horror was some of the juiciest I've seen since Cronenberg in the nineties. Hard to say where this will all lead, but I'm having fun watching the cast normalize the most bizarre and grotesque happenings. A breakout role for Rosa Salazar Alita Battle Angel. Review score for parts 1-4 is Mulholland Drive meets Starry Eyes. An occult horror series that is so close to perfect, so cool it hurts, so entertaining, I absolutely loved it. The only thing that lets it down is that it should’ve had a rocking mid-90s soundtrack, if it had that then it would’ve been a full 5 stars. And what a joy it was to watch a Netflix series that didn’t drag or go for longer than necessary, each episode was 40 minutes and got everything done it needed to. I’m impressed, I really didn’t go in with high expectations and this exceeded anything I thought it would be. I liked Rosa Salazar before, but I have a newfound respect for her now and Catherine Keener is fantastic as the witch who reminds me just a tad too much of my aunt who passed this past May. SPOILER ALERT Do not read if you have not yet watched “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” streaming now on Netflix. Netflix’s new limited series “Brand New Cherry Flavor” promised twists, turns and kittens right from the start, but it’s hard to imagine anyone could have guessed exactly how those felines would come into play. It seemed innocuous enough at first, with a mysterious woman going by the name of Boro Catherine Keener cradling a cat at a Hollywood event. There are enough eccentrics in Tinseltown that characters barely batted an eye. But after budding filmmaker Lisa Rosa Salazar took Boro up on her offer to put a curse on a producer Eric Lange who misled her and put her in a MeToo situation, it was revealed those cats were Boro’s payments. And they were coming from inside those with whom she struck deals. Usually, Lisa vomited up these kittens, but after asking Boro to make that stop, she ended up birthing one from a new orifice that tore itself in her torso. Needless to say, the discomfort of that proved to be a one-time thing, and Lisa went back to accepting the oral alternative. The written description came from the minds of showrunners Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion, but the look of the newborn kittens were a collaboration between an on-set puppeteer team and the visual effects team, lead by VFX supervisor Danny Yoon. “I think where special effects is really effective when you do start with a base in something physical and real,” Yoon tells Variety, noting that a lot of what he loves about his job is “helping people tell the stories in either creative or invisible ways.” This came into play in the kitten scenes in a number of ways. First and foremost, Yoon reveals, was removing the puppeteering rig from every frame of footage from these kitten sequences. “The kittens have these puppeteering rods that have these wires that go in that manipulate the little features in their faces,” he explains. “It’s pretty painstaking, tedious work. You have to isolate the kitten, so you have to rotoscope it out — you’re literally cutting it out on the frame. And then once you have it isolated, then to remove the rigs, you have to recreate the frame behind the rigs and you have to track that all in. So, those are the invisible effects that we do.” From there, he and his team had to ramp up the emotion on the kittens’ faces and make sure they looked like they had just come out of Lisa’s body. Although Salazar really did spit something out of her mouth on set, visual effects was responsible for increasing the size of what was coming out of her in those moments so “it filled the mouth,” Yoon points out. They also had to add “bloody, pinkish slime” to the kittens’ coloring. “Nick and Lenore especially wanted that expressiveness of this fragile kitten. At points in the rough you could tell it’s a puppet — it’s a little stiff — so we had to put in every little blink, mewing at certain points, we had to make it more slimy and shiny,” he says. “We just put procedural effects that add additional lighting to it. It’s pretty standard stuff that we use as a toolkit. But for the eyes and the mouth, we [use] 2-and-a-half D effects, so we track in a matte painting of the mouth and then we literally animate the stills.” “Brand New Cherry Flavor” filmed amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the summer of 2020, which meant visual effects were all done remotely, to adhere to new safety protocols. Yoon had previously worked with Antosca on his Syfy “Channel Zero” series, which helped him immediately understand what the producer would be looking for on this series. Despite new working conditions, “Brand New Cherry Flavor’ was peanuts compared to Channel Zero,'” Yoon says. “That really prepped us for the demands of this show.” Establishing the look of the initial kitten sequence took his team about five days, but once they got the hero shot down, he says they were able to speed things up for the rest of the times the script called for Lisa to cough up a cat. After the first time the audience sees Lisa go through such an experience, they may be waiting for it to happen again. So Yoon wanted to ensure each new time it did, it came with an elevated gross-out factor. Most commonly, this required “spit addition.” “You can’t have enough slime, so we have to make it look wet. We call it re-lighting you’re using the image itself to add highlights, and then we did have to put more spit coming out of her mouth,” he says. When it came to the birthing scene, which was graphic by the nature of her skin splitting open, practical effects once again proved vital. “The second orifice was the whole side of her torso and [the special effects team] just pushed it out,” Yoon says of that kitten expulsion. “We had to isolate the orifice and make it look wetter and bloodier. And of course they had this blinking light in the scene, so we had to painstakingly color correction and animate the skin. The rig itself was just lit normally and it was static, so we had to track it in with the way her natural torso works and just make it look seamless.” Perhaps surprisingly, Yoon says the kitten scenes were relatively easy to create on his end. More challenging for him was both the jaguar demon and the scene of Mary Siena Werber plucking out her own eye and eating it. The former was complicated because it was one example where the production plates the visual effects team received were simply not scary enough and required Yoon to do a lot more research. “They had this dancer in this rubber suit and you can feel it’s a rubber suit. So, we didn’t really know from the script or production what we really needed to do with it,” he says. “The idea was that this creature was in between dimensions. We had to make a clean plate because otherwise you’d see a double image because we were stacking it on top. Then we blurred it, and that was a really complicated process, then we added the glowing eyes. That was quite a transformation from what was shot.” The latter was a scene within a scene Mary’s drug-induced actions are captured for Lisa’s short film, which the character then watches to understand what happened to her. Warning Gigantic spoilers ahead! If I had to sum up Brand New Cherry Flavor BNCF in one word, it would probably be “puke”. Because, for one, there’s a whole lot of puking going on in that series. Second, there are lots of gory, disgusting scenes that I’d like to block out of my memory forever. But the most “pukey” aspect of this series is the fact that most of its insane and surreal events are inspired by real life. “Even the part where the witch turns people into slave zombies?”. Yes. In many ways, BNCF is reminiscent of movies such as Mullholland Drive and The Neon Demon which are about young talents trying to make it to Hollywood … only to discover that there’s something terribly wrong with it. In fact, BNCF and The Neon Demon are both centered around the same exact symbolism. The promotional posters of BNCF and The Neon Demon focus on the same exact symbol An eyeball being eaten. BNCF and The Neon Demon are both about Hollywood being run by evil, murderous, cannibalistic witches. And, in both, there’s a scene where an actress/model eats an actual eyeball. What does it represent? Many things. But mainly, the soul-deadening sacrifice one must make to the occult elite in order to succeed in the entertainment industry. As seen in countless articles in the past, the one-eye sign is the favorite symbol of the occult elite. Portraying artists swallowing an eye which is also an act of cannibalism is the perfect symbol representing the selling of one’s soul. The entire BNCF series has an obsessive fixation with the one-eye sign – it is everywhere, all the time. That’s a way of letting viewers know that the horrific and disgusting that happen in the series are not just “entertainment”. It’s the occult elite revealing its true ugly face. And having the viewers think it’s cool, sexy, and “empowering”. Here’s a look at key events in the series and how they relate in “real life” Hollywood. Brand New Elite Flavor BNCF is about a young movie director named Lisa Nova who moves to Los Angeles with dreams of making it big in the industry. Her short movie – titled Lucy’s Eye – immediately captures the attention of big names in the industry. Short snippets of Lisa’s movie are shown throughout the episodes. The title screen of the movie alone indicates that this is pure occult elite madness. The movie is all about the one-eye sign. The short movie ends with the actress literally scooping one of her eyes out and eating it. Although this sounds like the worst movie ever made, people in Hollywood love it. They’re also fascinated by the “special effects” of that final scene. However, we soon learn that there’s a whole lot of evil stuff surrounding the making of that movie. Before filming the final scene of Lucy’s Eye, Lisa who directs the movie tells Mary the actress that she wants an “Isabella Adjani in Possession-level” performance. That’s an interesting reference because Adjani’s role in this highly disturbing movie about demon possession nearly killed her. “The role was emotionally exhausting for Adjani. In one of the interviews, she stated that it took her several years to recover from her performance, which J. Hoberman called “a veritable aria of hysteria”. It was rumored that she attempted suicide after filming completed, which was confirmed by Żuławski.” – Wikipedia, Possession 1981 Film Before filming the final scene of the movie, Lisa and Mary take peyote – a hallucinogen drug used by native tribes before religious ceremonies. Soon after, Mary started seeing some freaky stuff. While she was being filmed by Lisa, Mary saw an entity possessing the director. Also A one-eye sign in this shot. Terrified by the demon-like thing that was inside Lisa, Mary actually scooped her eye out and ate it. And Lisa filmed the scene and kept it in the movie as the grand finale. In short, there were no “special effects”. Viewers of Lucy’s Eye are actually watching a snuff-like movie – which happens to be one of the occult elite’s sick obsessions. Lisa’s movie eventually captures the attention of a Hollywood bigshot named Lou Burke who wants to turn Lucy’s Eye into a blockbuster hit. While, at first, Burke acted as a mentor, he soon tried to sleep with Lisa. When she refused, Lisa was replaced as director of her movie. This caused Lisa to be angry and wanting revenge. Enters Boro. Boro Hollywood Witch Boro presents herself to Lisa at a Hollywood party. Ever since Lisa arrived in Hollywood, Boro has been tracking down Lisa. She sensed a “force” in Lisa probably that demon seen above and she wants to consume it. During a party with Hollywood bigshots, Boro presents herself to Lisa and tells her that she can destroy the life of Lou Burke. The method A curse using the blackest magics. But first, Lisa must go through a ritual involving eating a stew made from disgusting ingredients. The character of Boro appears to be heavily inspired by an actual Hollywood witch Marina Abramovic. Marina Abramovic chilling with a snake. Like Boro, Abramovic is influential in Hollywood, takes stars “under her wing” and involves them in events involving witchcraft spirit cooking. Also, like Boro, Abramovic is also a big fan of cannibalism. Abramovic organized several star-studded events which culminated with people eating a human-shaped cake. So she makes a deal with Lisa She destroys Lou Burke’s life by putting a curse on him and Lisa pays her … in the weirdest way possible. As payment for her services, Boro can make Lisa puke out kittens on command. Boro must really like cats. But, actually, no. She drinks their blood and then she kills them. Boro extracts blood from a cat in order to drink it. If Boro doesn’t regularly drink blood from a cat that was “birthed” by Lisa, she starts to wither away. In case you didn’t know, the occult elite has been drinking the blood of young people to “regenerate vitality” for centuries. BNCF is yet another media product that celebrates and normalizes this practice which used to be considered an abomination. So we soon understand that there’s something clearly wrong with Boro. Then, we learn that she’s not really human. She’s actually a centuries-old entity/demon/spirit who jumps from one human body to another. In a particularly upsetting scene, Boro poisons the family of the woman whose body she is currently possessing. Then, she performs a “lobotomy” on them by removing a part of their brains through their nose … and eating it. This scene is supposed to be humorous. Boro also has an army of dead people she controls to do her bidding. She treats them like animals. Boro throws raw meat into a dog bowl to feed her slaves. Boro is therefore an adept of the most infernal “dark arts” Necromancy. Furthermore, these zombies are a symbolic way of representing the occult elite’s most horrific practice Mind control aka MK-ULTRA. Through sadistic practices that often involve rituals, MK slaves lose their core personality they become zombies and are reprogrammed to do their handler’s bidding. Boro uses her slaves to stalk and kill people. In the world of Monarch mind control, this is called Delta Programming. In one symbolic scene, we learn more about the force that animates Boro … and the occult elite. A woman goes to Boro for a tarot reading. When the woman sees The Devil card, she says – The Devil? Does this mean that something bad is going to happen? Boro answers – It’s cool. The Devil isn’t necessarily bad. – But its … The Devil. – The one and only. But, you know, The Devil can have all sorts of meaning. Right after, the woman is killed and becomes one of Boro’s slaves. She becomes “chained” to Boro the same way the woman in the tarot card is chained to the devil. Through this short and seemingly unimportant scene, we understand the true forces at play in BNCF. Descent Into Darkness When Boro helps Lisa destroy Lou Burke the predatory Hollywood bigshot using a curse, the series conveys a strong “empowered feminist witch burning the patriarchy” kind of vibe. However, we actually witness the exact opposite of empowerment. To get what she wants, Lisa actually has to submit to Boro and subject herself to the occult elite’s depraved ways. And a bunch of innocent suffer horribly because of it. During a Christmas party, the guy who was supposed to replace Lisa as the director of her movie suddenly catches fire. As Lisa watches the guy burn, Boro stands behind her. In a previous scene, Lisa is asked what she’s going to wear to the party. She wears a red dress – the color of sacrifice. In order to destroy Lou Burke, Boro tells Lisa that she must go through a “binding ritual”. Boro gives Lisa balché, an ancient drink used by Mayans during ceremonies of “communion with the elements and spirits of nature, as well as the lords of the heavens”. Boro says “It opens you up and makes you receptive to the spirits”. In order to carry out the curse, Boro asks Lisa to find a picture of Lou Burke and a “pinch of pubic hair”. While this last ingredient sounds somewhat humorous, pubic hair has been used in actual, real-life witchcraft for centuries. “Across the world, in all types of magic, including voodoo and hoodoo, witches used pubic hair as an especially robust ingredient for spells.” – Shaina Joy Machlus, Witchcraft and Body Hair A Long History of Interconnectedness Although the story of BNCF is ficitional, it is based on the actual occult mentality in Hollywood. And, in order to get what she wants, Lisa will have to descend further down into its depravity. And nearly everyone she comes across ends up dying horribly. One of the consequences of Lisa’s curse Lou Burke’s son – who’s an innocent bystander in this story – turns into one of Boro’s zombie slaves. In order to get rid of the curse that took his son, Lou Burke hires hitmen to kill Lisa. When a hitman enters her apartment, Lisa, who has heightened occult powers after licking a toad another ancient drug, kills him savagely and … eats a part of him. When a friend of Lisa asks her how it felt, she responds “Kind of like opening a birthday present”. Why does Netflix keep promoting cannibalism? You know why. And there’s even more of it in BNCF. Boro tells Lisa that the toad she licked was poisonous and that she will soon die … unless she goes through rituals of sex magick and blood magick. Once again, those are not random, made-up things that somewhat sound “witchy”. Those are at the core of the teachings of occult secret societies that are extremely powerful in Hollywood such as the Ordo Templi Orientis The cover of an book written by occultist Aleister Crowley. While Lisa engages in “magick”, Boro watches over like some kind of creepy witch. The blood magick ritual is somewhat less pleasurable. According to Boro, Lisa must “consume the flesh of a man who died in his prime, like holy communion”. The “holy communion” part is not random. Satanic black masses are based on the reversal of Christian rituals and traditions. In a particularly nauseating scene, Boro cuts a piece of a recently deceased man who happens to be Lisa’s friend and cooks it inside an omelet. When faced with that cursed dish, Lisa comes to a realization that was probably shared by countless actual celebrities “All I wanted to do was to make a movie. It feels like I traded his life for a f*cking movie.” Fortunately for Lisa, she discovers that she doesn’t actually need to eat this omelet to cure the poison. It seems like Boro was lying to Lisa in order to “initiate” her into the darkest practices of the occult elite. After all of this, a rich Hollywood guy contacts Lisa and tells her that he wants to finance her film. Moral of the story It worked. When Lisa goes back to Lou Burke to kill him, she finds a broken man who is constantly in pain. He tells her “You think you’re f*cking righteous? You think it’s artist versus predatory producer? Are you so sure you are the hero of this story?” That’s a good question. In fact, there doesn’t really seem to be a hero in this series. All of the characters with heroic traits all died in horrific ways. Moral of the story Hollywood is not a place for good people. In the final episode, Lisa – who is apparently trying to flee Hollywood – leaves for Brazil. Lisa is at an airport that has an ethereal feel. Is she maybe dead? I guess that will be revealed in the next season. Or whatever. In Conclusion Most media critics described BNCF as a “wild ride” with all kinds of crazy stuff happening. But that’s not all that is happening. Through a crescendo of increasingly horrifying scenes, BNCF takes the viewers right inside the sick world of the occult elite. And, this sickness is presented in a somewhat cool and desirable fashion. Although Boro the witch ended up being a “bad guy”, she is nevertheless portrayed as a cool and empowered figure that many viewers will admire. BNCF is yet another Netflix creation that celebrates all of the satanic horrors of the occult elite. Not unlike series such as “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, BNCF depicts abhorrent practices such as cannibalism and mind control in a fun and entertaining matter. In short, this is all about the occult elite revealing its true face and incorporating it into popular culture. In even shorter, this series is a brand new flavor of crap they’ve been serving the masses for years.
